Did you see the comment from the Debian maintainer on the bug watch I attached? Looks like the strange version numbers come from a patch adding python3-support. While somewhat annoying, the impact seems limited to the version numbers in the directories.
I'm not sure how to proceed with this bug report now, whether it should remain open or mark it as a Won't Fix issue.
