Maybe we should change the topic. The cause with the tv output makes sense since the same happens if an external monitor is connected to an laptop and clone mode (which is the default) is activated. Isn't it possible to activate only one monitor (the bigger one) at once or using desktop extension instead of clone mode per default with xrandr?
