Anything `critical` holding this off to happen?

Debian has recently reached 2nd stage of freeze for Stretch & just 1
more stage is planned 'til FinalFreeze (4th stage). Nothing new there on
this subject.

Some interesting lecture [1] why it's starting on tty1 anyway since
SystemD. The is retrieved from the Arch-Linux-Wiki. ¬ This is not new.
Ubuntu has very capable XOrg-people in their team. Ask there for help if
you cannot proceed further from own powers.
