Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 16.10, I've had an annoying problem with variety.
Now, I don't think the bug is actually with variety, it just shows the
symptoms. Basically, within a couple minutes of setting a new wallpaper
with variety, something in the 16.10 desktop environment sets it back to
the default wallpaper. Not sure what's causing it, but it basically
defeats using variety, and is really annoying.
