do-release-upgrade didn't work, in part because my servers are behind a
firewall and use a local network mirror.

So I edited sources.list, replacing feisty with gutsy. Then,
# aptitude update
# aptitude full-upgrade

Because of some pre-depends, it tooks a couple or three rounds of upgrades.
But it all got upgraded and the kruft got removed. (Aptitude is a beautiful
thing.) To work around the bug, I manually edited /boot/grub/menu.list to
move the server kernel to the first position. Reboot, and I have gutsy
running.
