Just today (18 Sept/06) installed Edgy Knot 3, the same "soft lockup" message on my AMD Opteron box, alternating between CPU#0 and CPU#1. Also, usplash segfaults, and in fact there is no splash screen on boot or on shutdown/reboot; the latter needs using the shutdown/reboot button.
