Interesting.  Looking at /etc/init.d/networking, it logs a message
saying "Configuring network interfaces..." and then runs ifup...  But
maybe I'm just confused.


Anyway, here's ifconfig -a

And this is very strange - /etc/iftab seems to have disappeared.  I know it 
used to exist on the system; I remember editing it a few weeks ago.  This 
problem started happening when I dist-upgraded to edgy.  If having that file 
missing would cause this, maybe one of the packages accidentally deleted the 
iftab file?
