Interesting. Looking at /etc/init.d/networking, it logs a message saying "Configuring network interfaces..." and then runs ifup... But maybe I'm just confused.

I know it used to exist on the system; I remember editing it a few weeks ago. This problem started happening when I dist-upgraded to edgy.
