Sadly, turning of ACPI & HPET did not work. And using noapic on the
command line makes the Areca RAID controller driver fail.

I don't think ntpd can help me here, as it is designed to correct small
time drifts, update daylight savings etc. Here, the time jumps back to
1955, and all further access to the RTC is blocked by the kernel.
