Have been having same problem for several months. Had it on my old 14.4
machine, still have it on my new 16.4 machine. Tried several recent
versions of VLC, on several different Windows 7 boxes and they all show
this "bad file descriptor" behavior. Other media players e.g. Media
Player Classic do not cause any problems. File transfer via Windows
explorer works fine. File transfer via webserver works fine too. Problem
manifests over both WiFi and Ethernet. Problem is intermittent but
frequent, oftentimes if I have the "bad file descriptor" problem and I
try again it borks the entire samba session and I have to reboot the
Windows box to even see my shares again. Please contact me if you want
dumps/traces or anything else that may help.
