sudo apt install chromium-browser yields:

chromium-browser is already the newest version
(52.0.2743.116-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1250).

Re-running the original command:

sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade;sudo apt-get -y
autoremove

I may have already re-run the original, can't remember, sorry.

And part of the reason I went to the CL was because the software center
had locked up, so maybe there was some other invisible conflict?
