Public bug reported:

Hi all,

for about one week now I cannot use the Touchpad of my ThinkPad because
Ubuntu does not detect it. I encountered the same problem during the
installation, but a few days later everything suddenly worked. This time
a miraculous fix has not happened.

The Touchpad stopped being detected from one day to another. Changing
back to an older kernel version (which worked completely fine before)
did not solve the problem.

I started having the problem with kernel 4.4.0-36-generic and tried
4.2.0-42-generic which did not help.

I will shortly add the desired logs and attachments. The Ubuntu version
I am using is Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS.

Thanks in advance,
Stephan
