Same thing: google-chrome-stable 53.0.2785.101-1 works fine on the same box, so the issue is with the chromium update.
** Description changed: After upgrading to latest chromium-browser version (52.0.2743.116-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1250), the Google Cast extension no longer finds the Chromecast (v2) device.
