It looks to me like a pre-depend on the current python-gtk will fix the issue. This ensures that the postinst will not fail but just issue a (harmless) warning. Combined with Sebastians patch it should fix the issue (I'm doing a upgrade test on the terminal now to make sure that this is the case).

In german we have a word that sounds similar but means something along the lines of "please don't exaggerate".
