This is the first time I have tried installing Samba or any LAN for a long while, so bare with me. I want to help and learn this new stuff along the way.
By "local samba configuration that might indicate" are you talking about snb.conf or something beyond that like log files? Where are log files usually kept and can they be opened with Getedit? [I found recently that some windows log files at least are tokenized.
