Hi there, At first sight i can't identify the culprit, could you please give me a little more information about your system?, for instance which version of the nvidia driver, libxv1, xserver, gnome, etc, are you using. Do you have desktop effects activated?, are you using gutsy or feisty?, if you use nv driver instead of nvidia in your xorg.conf, does the same happens?, if you have mplayer installed and launch from command line with the "-vo xv" parameter, does the same happens?. i guess the distortion could be caused by another application accessing the xv extension, since only one can use the feature at the time, but i'm just guessing. You could try to reproduce a video without any other program opened, just to confirm this, this is as soon as you login.
