I still have the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (4.2.0-42-generic GNU/Linux) with HP notebook 17-y011nc (AMD A10-9600P RADEON R5, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G; AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M340, on command line it gives me something slightly different: AMD/ATI Topaz XT (Radeon R7 M260/M265)). I use proprietary drivers (fglrx) but using open source drivers before didn't help. I don't use mouse, just touchpad, and when the screen freezes, I can't move mouse pointer with touchpad. Didn't try it with real mouse. Unlike almost all the guys above, Ctrl-Alt-F1 (switch to tty1) doesn't work for me. Music keeps playing but the display is completely frozen. Alt-PrtSc-REISUB works (after E music stops, after B system reboots).
