This bug came to me back today so I can help now as well.

@Devid: I do not see any "Failed to get current playback position" in my
logs.

And Your last question: the one and >only< way I found to get sms sounds
back is to reboot the phone. And there is many things like this that
cease to function unless we reboot. That's what I noticed in case of
screen rotation and music player: the longer we hear+use other
function/apps the sooner a Music Player will crash (like here: Bug
#1611249).

>>>SMS notifications seem to go off always after some >count< of
received messages<<< (or after uptime but I can't confirm-I receive to
many messages)

I noticed no other influence. It has nothing to do with games/Music
players etc. but rather if with anything than with memory consumption
(is there no system monitor for this phone?) I think the Bug #1611249 is
pretty interesting that at first we are unable to launch any app and
then suddenly after some time notification area repairs, Music player
starts somehow if it doesn't have to load a playlist (when we open a
file with the app, not start the app itself cause then it crashes). When
my music player crashes, for some time I'm unable to open any app in the
system. I have to wait a few minutes or reboot. Sms issue is quite
opposite: it never started to play sounds again.
