I don't know where to put this wishlist. In Windows 7 I'm searching in a lot of xls or doc files by typing in Start menu (Win is indexing all files, even these not opened before). Alternative to this is Gnome Tracker, but there should be option to use it with Unity. There is one extension to Gnome Shell (https://github.com/hamiller/tracker-search-provider).
