When I enabled the Library Watcher, Banshee hung. After that, every time I opened Banshee, it hung. I used the nuclear option to recover:
sudo apt-get purge banshee rm -rf ~/.config/banshee-1/ sudo apt-get install banshee Disabling the "Podcast" extension worked for me.
