I know this, but packages on kernel.ubuntu.com has patches and dependences, which can not be used in 16.04...((( I compile 3.18.35 and have no solution for my problem... ((( 3.16,3.18,3.19 had bad issue: my cursor was clear. It works but I see only onfocus doings.
Some situation(as this) was when I upgrade to 14.04. Which thing helps me I did not remember now. After this All new kernels and new upgrades works fine on 14.04.
