Public bug reported: Moved to Ubuntu 16.04 from Ubuntu 14.04 and was doing some Test Driven Development where we began to override the "time" system call from glibc. Failed on Ubuntu 16.04 and I filed a report with the binutils Bugzilla.

They have since developed a patch and I want to get this into the binutils 1.26 line that is maintained for 16.04 so we can continue to properly develop software on this distribution.
