Then perhaps that was the wrong fix, but I can assure you that if you try to boot up ubuntul/xenial64 on Ubuntu's packaged Virtualbox, the machine will go into "gurumeditation" state. Installing 5.0.20 from upstream's website fixes the issue and the vm boots fine.
