Okay, I decided to go ahead and create a couple of ppas and this seems a bit better than attaching a bunch of bin pkgs: https://launchpad.net/~nerdboy
The fix for this is in the despktop package ppa but it looks like only x86/x86_64 packages are built (even though I did the deb pkg updates on ARM) so you'll probably need to build from source package unless I can find a way to make it build armhf.
