Hello, I have this bug too, on a Xubuntu 7.04. I don't have xbindkeys installed, so this is not the real cause of the problem, at least for me.
Dragging the mixer applet to the panel works, but I have to do it every time I start an X session, which is kind of bothering. Here's a (pruned) list of what's running on my computer.
