Exact issue on my laptop too (Lenovo Y40-80). Updated from 14.04 to 16.04 yesterday, and when I used to close the lid before, the laptop used to go to suspend mode, and wake up whenever I opened the lid again. However, after upgrading to 16.04, if I close the lid, the screen just turns back (while the system is still running), and when I open the lid again, the screen remains black, and I need to hard reset (long pressing the power button). Even on selecting "Suspend" from top right corner of the menu, it shows the same behaviour.
