I can confirm this is a problem on my system too. I have booted to the 16.04 LTS release ISO on a USB stick, and I get three separate Plasma crash screens, all invalid instruction exceptions.
System details: Asus H110M-A motherboard, 16GB RAM, Intel core i3, Nvidia GTX950. dmesg reports that after 19 seconds or so the "nouveau" process has crashed. Engine 7 client 6 reason 2 channel 2 I switched to internal graphics and it then worked OK, so it looks like it's an issue with the NVIDIA graphics drivers.
