I have the exact problem also. Would appreciate greatly being made aware of a fix?
So I used synaptic to install msttcorefonts and now whenever i install a package or update apt tries to get font files from a number of servers and timesout on all of them. If i try to connect to the files through firefox I can download them fine. I now cannot install nor remove msttcorefonts. This issue is annoying and also is now preventing me from installing another .deb file, which complains of dependency problems, even though all are satisfied.
