I have a similar problem, yet this is on a desktop, with a Radeon 9200 PRO, 128MB Video RAM. I am using a Chimei 22" wide screen monitor, max resolution of 1680x1050, yet X is only running at 1360x768, according to my monitor's on-screen display.
Attached are Xorg.0.log, /etc/X11/xorg.conf and lspci -vvnnn.
