Thanks for confirming.  Strangely, I was now able to reproduce the crash
with your recipe on nano-2.4.2.

I think it has been fixed since then by commit 8a06dfa on August 2 last year, 
which was a fix for a Debian bug [1],
which went into 2.4.3 and later.
