I presume you mean that "parameters =" in /etc/zipl.conf should have crashkernel=auto set.
Note that on ubuntu, we do not enable crashkernel by default, but we do enable it upon installing kdump packages. On the other hand, unlike other architectures we do not actually re- generate /etc/zipl.conf from e.g. configs and kernels on disk. Thus I am inclined to add crashkernel=auto by default.
