Further to my comments #23 above, I have now found that this card is working well. I was initially fooled by the bitrate going to 1mb/s whenever there is no data transfer. When data is moving it reaches around 200mb/s (n type AP) and stays there. I have not seen this behaviour with other wifi cards which seem to display a constant bitrate regardless of what's going on.
It seems to be loading a default/fallback firmware that works well but is still missing out on the direct load - see below brian@lap2u1510:~$ dmesg |grep iwlwifi [ 9.226439] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-15.ucode failed with error -2 [ 9.229221] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-14.ucode failed with error -2 [ 9.235296] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: loaded firmware version 25.30.13.0 op_mode iwlmvm [ 9.307214] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 7260, REV=0x144 [ 9.307283] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled [ 9.307525] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled [ 9.591407] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0 wlp7s0: renamed from wlan0 [ 10.470015] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled [ 10.470248] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled [ 10.677804] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled [ 10.678035] iwlwifi 0000:07:00.0: L1 Disabled - LTR Disabled -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1527444 Title: Intel 7260 Wifi not working on Ubuntu 15.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1527444/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
