On a slow connection, an update might take hours. So I think keeping the screen on during a manual update would be a bad idea for two reasons.
Firstly, leaving the screen on for hours would drain battery unnecessarily. Secondly, the device doesn’t lock until the screen turns off or sometime afterward. So if downloading an update stopped the screen turning off, it would also stop the screen from locking. That would mean you couldn’t safely leave the device unattended while it was updating. You would have to carry it around with you. And that, in turn, means that if it was downloading over Wi-Fi, you personally would have to stay in range of the Wi-Fi. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353125 Title: Manual download or installation should inhibit suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1353125/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
