Update: The author (AriSoft) of the menu extension on which the subject menu was built suggested a one-line change in the CSS for the menu, which has restored the normal functionality of the menu in Firefox and as had no apparent impact on its function in other browsers. At this point, I don't know whether the problem is solved from Firefox developers' viewpoint. My site is agaIn operating as desired in all browsers, so MY problem is solved. However, I definitely less trustful of Firefox updates than I have been. I hope future updates do not break my site again!
