Looks like Robert Ancell dropped the transition packages from GS - bad mistake 
;-)
GS implements the PackageKit session interface now, while it was dropped from 
GNOME-PackageKit in recent releases, so the transitional packages must be in 
place, especially (obviously) if GPK is updated in Ubuntu.

I have no idea how these interfaces work when GS is installed without 
PackageKit - afterall, the possibility to disable PK in GS was introduced to GS 
only to be able to xdg-app-sandbox it, and not to actually use it without PK.
Maybe the session interface will still work though, and just use your aptd 
stuff...
