I updated the BIOS to version F.50 almost a week ago. Unfortunately, I did not notice any improvements and the problem still persists :-(
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 68SVD Ver. F.50 08/04/2014 If I select the OS "Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit)" instead of "Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)" at the HP website that you suggested (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5071172&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158), an even later BIOS version is available (F.60). Should I install this version? ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1540013 Title: Ubuntu gets slow and freezes, because 'invisible' processes use all memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1540013/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
