On previous Ubuntu versions there was a workaround. You had to type "help" 
(after boot:) then hit "enter".
That doesn't work anymore.

Gallium OS which is based on Xubuntu 15.04 works and don't need a workaround. 
Maybe it's a good place to start.
It will be great if it can be fixed for Ubuntu 16.04 !
