Public bug reported: I did some stress testing with a song collection in the music app and ended up with a hung music app, as well as a hung dash. /var/crash has a crash file from the compositor.
It seems that either music app or media hub has some problem. I'm not sure how that relates to the frozen UI though. Below is a copy of a conversation on IRC. I know, this is pretty thin on the ground, but it's all I have. [7:38pm] michi: I’ve been using mainly the music app and the music scope. [7:39pm] michi: I think part of the problem is the music app, or possibly media hub. [7:39pm] michi: I have 300 songs on the phone. [7:39pm] michi: Each song is 1 second of silence. [7:39pm] michi: I used that for testing image retrieval from the remote server. [7:39pm] michi: The music app regularly gets stuck when I start playing the songs by tapping on a song in the song list. [7:40pm] michi: It gets stuck in different ways, seemingly randomly. [7:40pm] michi: Sometimes, It plays a song, the next one, and so on, until, after four or five songs, it suddenly stops, and the play button and the skip buttons become unresponsive. [7:40pm] michi: When in that state, I sometimes, but not always, can tap on the menu icon and get back to the song list. [7:40pm] michi: Other times, the entire app freezes. [7:41pm] michi: That’s what happened half an hour ago. [7:41pm] michi: I used a right-edge swipe to get back to the dash, and found a frozen dash. [7:41pm] michi: That’s pretty much the sum-total of what I know. [7:41pm] michi: I tried “restart unity8-dash”. [7:41pm] michi: That re-started the dash, but it hung again after a few seconds.
