This patch has worked for me, it definitively fixes the boot failure with the exact same symptoms that you see; but I can't reproduce it on 225, just on (unpatched) 227; but I'm 99% sure it's the same bug. Upgrading to the PPA is safe, aside from systemd with that one patch there is nothing else there.
