Here's an idea how the "Local printers" page could look like (see
attached image). Basically it is a list of all printers. Every printer
has a nice icon (normal printer icon in most cases, and for default
printer maybe with some overlay icon). The printer CUPS name and the
model are displayed (the technical model name should show the user that
the printer is indeed correctly recognized, inducing warm fuzzy feelings
about "wow, everything works!" :) ; similarly, the green light and the
"Idle" text should give the user a sense of "control" about all his
printers :-D

What's missing is a "Settings..." button for every printer that leads to
the actual settings page. Maybe the green light has to be sacrificed for
the button... Alternatively, the printer name/model text could be made
clickable (like a hyperlink) or turned into a button.

The "New printer..." button is just there to fill the lower half of the
page.

The question remains what happens when the list gets too long... There
must be scrollbars then. Alternatively, the list could be displayed in a
normal list box, but that wouldn't look as "report-like" as the list I
thought of. IMHO the user should see the list as an overview, not the
actual gateway to the printer settings.

Anyway, regarding the Gutsy schedule :-) maybe it would be enough for
now to add a simple describing text (enough to fill the blank dialog
page, but not so much that the user is bored/feels obliged to read it
all). Btw. Ekiga seems to have the same problem and fills these pages
with a nice full-page picture. That might be inappropriate here, though.
