I'm also experiencing this with an NVidia card and a Samsung s27a850 monitor. Can someone who is knowledgable about the software advise about what a fix would require?
For me, the main symptoms are 1) pressing power button on monitor causes Ubuntu to drop the screen from list of displays, rearranging my meticulously positioned windows. 2) monitor doesn't go to sleep when 2 other monitors go to sleep.
