No, sorry I could not check this. As the installation finally did complete, I 
didn't further investigate the issue (and I don't intend to repeat an 
installation on my system just to verify the case). 
It may well be, that I did not pay attention to a question window as Matthew 
suggests (and I mentioned this possibility in my last comment dated 
2015-08-17). However, I have a question regarding Matthew's hypothesis:
Why is the software center active (executing code on the CPU), while it is 
waiting for user input? The activity of the software center is visible in the 
attached strace output and as mentioned previously I noticed it was using 5 to 
10 percent of CPU while the installation seemed to be hanging.
