Just to update on this, the new patch to use generic plugin by default (which many tests assume) and only disable it via environment variable made it possible to keep tests enabled. The last upstream commit related to fixing this bug was also merged to Qt 5.5. Silo 032 is updated for the backports to Qt 5.4.1.
