Like Bill Miller (#19) I downgraded via the suggestion in #16, and it broke [amongst other things] Software Updater, Software & Updates (which also affects Synaptic, in that its interface for managing repositories becomes inaccessible). I had to temporarily enable trusty proposed via adding it to /etc/apt/sources.list, and upgrade the packages again. This is a terribly annoying situation, and really should not be happening on an LTS release.
