Public bug reported: Realtek wifi devices based on RTL8812AU are not yet supported by the upstream kernel, so an external module is needed.
The module is GPLv2, and provided by both Realtek and the main device vendors shipping RTL8812AU. You can find a quite big list of devices using such chip at https://goo.gl/v9FY2N (currently 35 devices). I personally got 2, and was able to confirm that both work with the same module. This FFe (and new package) request is to include the rtl8812au dkms package in universe (currently building at https://launchpad.net/~rsalveti/+archive/ubuntu/arm-ppa), so we can provide a better wifi experience for Ubuntu users using the Wily release. Source package and packaging branch also available at https://github.com/rsalveti/rtl8812au ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501194 Title: [FFe] new package to support rtl8812au based wifi devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1501194/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
