Since the proper fix as noted is in unity8, the question is what can we do in the short term to provide a better user experience given that scopes cannot directly access widget properties.
One possibility: switch from carousel to horizontal-list This provides more space for very long names and provides an ellipse in the rare case where a name is so long it needs to be truncated. Please see attached for how this looks with my very long contact names.
