I see the '/etc/modprobe.d is not a file' message on Ubuntu 15.04 with
my AMD/ATI Radeon HD 7850 video card (so its not isolated to nvidia).
$ sudo lshw -c video | grep driver
configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
