Public bug reported:

It would be nice if there would be a way to directly get/access to the
points (geometry) of the text string that can be rendered.

No it is possible to Render the the text and to use display lists. But
display list are today not always the best choice to render geometries.
For that reason access to the raw coordinates/points of the text would
be nice. So one could handle the rendering by itself.

** Affects: ftgl (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
