actually mv .config/audacious .config/audacious-play-next-bug solves the problem (although all playlists will be lost)
actually after using diff I found that I had to edit ~/.config/audacious/config [audacious] no_playlist_advance=TRUE obviously this has to be deleted (like when deleting all settings and starting audacious anew) or set to FALSE. Actually this option can also be toggled in playlist->no playlist advance [Ctrl+N] this explains why it was suddenly set. I'm used to Ctrl+N for opening a new window, so then I tried that instead of Ctrl+T for opening a new playlist.
