Public bug reported:

[ SRU Justification ]
This is a regression caused by the previous SRU where, under some corner cases,
apt will segfault. See test case.

[ (Convoluted) Test Case ]
In a clean trusty chroot:
# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
# apt-get install xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic
xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-utopic xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-utopic
software-properties-common
# apt-add-repository ppa:gregory-hainaut/pcsx2.official.ppa
# dpkg --add-architecture i386
# apt-get update
# apt-get install pcsx2
(segfault)
# for i in apt apt-utils libapt-pkg4.12 libapt-inst1.5; do echo
"$i"_1.0.1ubuntu2.10_amd64.deb | xargs dpkg -i; done
# apt-get install pcsx2
0 upgraded, 170 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

[ Additional Test Case ]
In addition to verifying the segfault has been fixed, the regression tests for
bug #1479207 and bug #1429041 should be run again to make sure we've made
forward progress.

[ Regression Potential ]
Fairly low but, hey, that's what we say every time we touch this line of code,
and we've done it 4 times now.

** Affects: apt (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
