I have this problem too playing videos in anything (totem, vlc, etc). I am running the latest version of Gusty, using the proprietary ATI drivers, and Compiz Fusion (note that I am NOT using XGL). It happens after exactly 10 minutes, regardless of the power settings in GNOME. I have also attached my Xorg.0.log and will post my xorg.conf in a separate post.
